Physicians for Social Responsibility

believe in a Kansas City
safe from nuclear weapons

Our community has a right to accountability and transparency from our governing bodies and the contractors they hire.

Who is PSR-KC?

Ann and Kimmy at Back from the Brink march in NYC

We are a local chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR) National. Guided by the values and expertise of medicine and public health, PSR works to protect human life from the gravest threats to health and survival. PSR mobilizes physicians, health professionals and non-physicians to advocate for climate solutions and speak against the harm of nuclear weapons. PSR’s advocates contribute a voice to environmental health and nuclear weapons policy at the local, federal and international levels.

Nuclear weapons are internationally illegal

The US signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in 1970, and has since been in violation due to the 8 major nuclear weapons manufacturing facilities in the States. This includes the Kansas City plant, National Security Complex (NSC) which is operated by the contractor Honeywell on Kansas City municipal land, and currently manufactures the mechanical/electrical components to nuclear weapons. Like the trigger to a gun, these integral parts make nuclear weapons possible.

The Treaty on Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) went into effect in 2021, and is ratified by most of the world. The United States however still invests millions of taxpayer dollars into nuclear weapons modernization, with little to no oversight or accountability to the communities they operate in. The nuclear industrial complex has a long, violent history of environmental contamination as well as preventable, incurable illnesses and death among workers.

The voices of whistleblowers in this industry deserve to be amplified; our communities deserve accountability and transparency from our government and the contractors they fund with our tax dollars.
